2023 MIT App of Season Competition
The goal of the competition is to develop a mobile app using App Inventor that aligns with the competition’s theme of "Community", and to best demonstrate technical skill, design, creativity, and impact. It is an international competition that I participated in April 2023 and I was excited to learn that I got to be part of the project team developing the mobile app. As we are competing against participants from other countries, I do hope that we can win.
With persistent hot weather in Singapore, turning on the air conditioner is often the easiest solution but very often, the temperature is not set at the optimal level. This is not only an inefficient use of electricity, but it also contributes to global warming. The mobile App tht we have created is called ACUTE - AirCon Usage Tracker for Everyone. It was created using MIT App Creator, App of the Season. The main idea of the mobile app is to allow users to track and reduce unnecessary aircon usage by tracking their usage (Kilowatt per hour). This allow users to be more aware and mindful of their electricity usage.
I completed with team project with 3 other group mates.
Below is a demonstration of the app
2021 ShopBack x Kode It, Sparkies
1st Prize Winner
SMART ME

This competition was a collaboration between ShopBack and Kodecoon. The aim was to use AR codes to build an Instagram filter and the winning filter would be used by ShopBack for their marketing activities. The competition theme required the use of Shopback icons as part of the development.
As Shopback is a rebate app, I came up with a concept that was inspired by my mother who usually tries to get savings when she frequently shops online. I came up with the name Smart Me and I was glad I managed to win the competition. The main reason I won was because the gamification part could create social engagement. Importantly, it fits ShopBack's mission of smart shopping while creating savings.

2021 Do Your :Bit Challenge | Winner of Most Creative Idea
Young people aged 8 to 18 around the world participated in do your :bit 2021. The competition topic was to come up with innovative solutions that worked towards Global Goals and solved the problems facing the world.
My project title was "Round The Clock Planting". While I did not win the final competition, I did win the Most Creative Idea.

Most Creative Idea

2021 Pei Chun Scratch Coding Competition
As part of the MOE curriculum, upper primary students get the chance to learn Scratch Coding. The school organised a competition with the theme Towards Smart Nation where all my classmates got together for this project work . The idea we had was simple - use robots to clean our environment and we named the project: Saving the Environment through Robotic Submarine. We hope there would be a Robotic Submarine in the future to save the sea environment from pollution.
Design Game Background
-
We rely on foreign workers to do a lot of work for us in construction and cleaning. During COVID-19, Singapore closed its borders to protect its inhabitants.
-
When the dormitories were locked down due to the increase in cases, the workers were not able to do their job.
-
Because the virus was contagious, cleanliness and hygiene were exceptionally important during this period.
-
In order to have a clean environment even without enough workers, we propose to use robots to do the job for us.
-
After the lockdown, many people may wish to go out to enjoy themselves after being cooped up for so long. Beaches are one of the more popular places where people visit. But at the same time, a lot of trash will be created by their visits.

This project used basic Scratch codes. It's a simple project that I did together with 2 other classmates who had no coding knowledge. I shared my knowledge learnt from my coding lessons with Kodecoon Academy and built this together with them.

2020 National Coding and Robotics Competition
This was my very first coding competition where I represented my school in the junior team category.
The National Coding and Robotics Competition was organised by Ripple, Nanyang Polytechnic and NTU UAVionics Society, and supported by CoSpaces and DSTA.
To prepare us for this competition, the school provided us with 12 lessons of training in CoSpace. I found it very helpful.
I was extremely nervous as this was my very first competition where I represented my school and needed to do a presentation. But I overcame it by preparing my speech in advance and getting a lot of practice.
Although our team did not win, it was a very good experience for me.

National Robotic Competition 2020 | 3rd Place

Science Centre Singapore organised the National Robotics Competition (NRC) with the support of Ministry of Education. This competition uses the CoderZ platform which allowed me to use STEM skills like coding, robotics, and physical computing.
As 2020 was a unique year, the competition was done via ZOOM. Nevertheless, it was still fun.
All Pei Chun Public School students grouped under the Roaring Rhino came in 3rd position for this competition.

Roblox Competition 2020

This competition is open to participants from Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. I was excited as this was my first time competing against participants outside of Singapore. This was the 3rd competition I have participated at a national / international level but the second one that required a presentation. With my previous experience, I believe I did much better this time round in terms of my presentation.
The game was all about clearing obstacles and I hope one day I would be able to sell my game and more people would want to play it.

2018 Sony Creative Toys Competition
This was the very first time I took part in a competition. I created a toy in Primary 1 and although my toy was not chosen to represent the school, I enjoyed the process of creating the toy.
