Coding Journey

I had my first taste of coding in K2 where I attended Maple Bear Academy and my graduation project was to build a Lego Robot. But the start of my real coding journey was greatly influenced by my brother. I became interested in coding when I saw what he had created and shared online. With the support of my mother, I followed in my brother's footsteps and began learning Scratch Coding (which is coding 101) in Primary 3.

Elite Coder

Singapore Science Centre launched the Elite Coder programme with the aim of providing standardised assessment to benchmark coding competencies among students. It uses Code Monkey platform (with Coffeescript). Through 75 challenges, I was tested on the concepts of loops, variables, arrays, indexes and for loops. Having successfully completed the Basic level, I am now in the Intermediate level where I expect to receive my certification by July 2023. This certification demonstrates my mastery of coding fundamentals, and I look forward to moving up to the Advanced level soon!

Tested on

  1. Sequencing, Objects & Times Loops

  2. Variables & Indexes

  3. For loop

Scratch Coding

In this course, I studied TL basic concepts of programming and created different genres of games with Scratch. Here I learnt 5 basic programming concepts: Variables, Conditional Statements, Loops, Boolean and Logical Operators.

I created games and animations using drag-and-drop programming. And I'm not only proud of the games I have created, but also of the journey and effort. When the task requires me to put together step-by-step algorithms to make a complex game idea work, I also get the chance to explore my creative side.

Roblox Game Creation

I love gaming so nothing beats getting the chance to create my own game. I asked my mother to send me to this programme after witnessing my brother create his own Roblox games. It was fun experience for me.

This knowledge allowed me to create Roblox games during the Roblox Competition 2020. As this was my first competition and the first time I was presenting to my classmates, I felt I did not present as well as I had hoped, but it was definitely a great learning experience.
